”A War of the Worlds”: an audio play by A Theatre in the Dark

”A War of the Worlds”: an audio play by A Theatre in the Dark

May 1, 2022
"No one would have believed in the first years of the 21st century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than our own..." H.G. Wells enters the 21st century as a Chicagoland science journalist thrust into the events of an alien invasion after a meteor from the “Red Planet” Mars crashes outside the suburbs of Chicago at the start of the new decade. Separated from family, friends and everything they’ve ever known, A Theater in the Dark cooks in signature style as actors bring a cast of eclectic Chicagoland characters to life as they do everything in their power to survive as our world comes crashing down around them. As the Martians reveal their deadly Heat-Ray and their true intentions, whirling our characters into hair-raising chases across Chicago one question remains: is life on Earth doomed? This audio adventure originally connected actors broadcasting live each night across 5,500 miles to audiences in real time for Halloween 2021.

Our Daily Bread

Our Daily Bread

May 1, 2022

A podcast play about women of different spiritual practices, ages, and races making a weekly podcast in which they share recipes from the culinary traditions of their faith, including--in this episode--"pot shabbat". The podcast veers in an unexpected direction when one of the hosts is publicly cast out of her evangelical church the day before from the pulpit by the "local celebrity pastor" and accused of being a witch for her participation in both podcast and because of her "Christian mom-gig" as a Young Life representative for essential oils.

What if everything you thought about the world was turned upside down?  Monsters are real.  The shadows can hurt you.  Magic is everywhere.  Out of the Ashes follows a group as they must learn to alter their perception of reality and navigate a world that was long thought to be myth.  A world where you have the choice to fight for freedom or kneel in servitude.  A world where one misstep can end humanity's existence.  Where everything you thought you knew could change in an instant. They must learn to live in this new world or be lost to it.
